Seizure-scared the *#%!*# out of me!!!
Yesterday my 10month robpi Amy had a febrile seizure. Never have I seen anything like that!!! away we were to the e.r. She has flu, diarrea, high fever, ear infection, and 2 molars coming in. poor thing. I asked Doc if seizure could be related to bp. he said no. I thought maybe neurologically it could be. She's a little better today but still has a long ways to go.

How scary for you!!! I have a seizure disorder from a previous head injury. Forceps are the number one cause of epilepsy believe it or not; scar tissue on the brain causes one to have seizures. Fibril Seizures is something totally different though: caused from a fever spike.

Sorry to here that. I hope she gets better quick. When things like that happen the first thing you think of is, " Is it related to his/her injury?". It's a very hard thing to deal with but, they are all going to be fine. Lots of love to you and Amy.

Re: Seizure-scared the *#%!*# out of me!!!
My son is now 10 months. We were told to watch for seizures since birth. This scares me to think he could yet have one. We did notice something like this right before his surgery when he was 7 months old. It was minor but he seemed to have it mostly on his good side. I wish you well and hope things turn out okay.

My son has epilepsy and I know how scary it is to watch a child have a seizure.
Febrile seizures are an infant only issue, though. They grow out of them by about 5 years old.
Take extra care if you are bathing your child in tepid water (a great way to get fevers down) as you don't want to get into the seizure in the water situation.
About forceps causing epilepsy...my first child was delivered via forceps-I was told that I wasn't pushing right and I needed help. Only later did I learn that she had been shoulder dystocia (they broke her collar bone) but no bpi also no epilepsy. However, 2 years later I had twins and the second one was delivered a full footling breech...and he is my epileptic. At the moment, we don't know if Juliana will have epilepsy. My son's didn't show until Kindergarten. I had also heard that traumatic birth and/or forceps can cause epilepsy. I spoke to my ped neuro about it and she agreed that it happens, but the level of trauma has to be quite high with a whole host of other issues to go along with it.
Take care,
claudia
