Sick house here!...

Post by admin »

I just can't believe how fast we all got sick. My girls had their flu shots, but need a booster Jan 8th...guess what, they have the flu. Hannah is better already, but it was crazy trying to keep her fever down. Ella is on her second day being sick and burning up. She is on Motrin and Tylenol every 3 hours and I have been doing sponge baths. To make this situation worse, I was in the hospital all day Saturday b/c I caught the flu from Hannah and it went right to my chest since I have asthma. I didn't get my flu shot in time. =( So I had such a high fever, couldn't breathe at all, and felt like I was dying! My chest Xray came back okay, but I have bronchitis which is not good to have with asthma! I am on prednisone, an antibiotic, cough syrup, my inhaler and nebulizer! I had an hour breathing treatment at the hospital and then a 10 minute one a few hours later. Nothing helped b/c my chest felt so tight and my breathing was different b/c of my fever. The meds are starting to kick in. I hope I am better by Christmas Eve. I still have shopping to do that I was supposed to finish Saturday. What a time to be so sick! This stinks man! Please send us some healthy vibes!! We need them!
Happy Holidays!

Sorry to hear eveyone is so sick. Michael had a high fever as well and was admitted because of his port for a few days. The hospitals here are full to capacity with sick children. So many including Michael were very dehydrated when coming in. Make sure your kids are drinking enough. High fevers burn it up faster. Hope everyone feels better soon.

BE CAREFUL WITH THIS FLU!!

Post by JaimeC »

Everyone be very careful with this flu!! It can turn to pneumonia very quickly. Make sure your doctor's and/or pediatricians KNOW that you have the flu. DO NOT try to tough it out on your own. Get advice from the doc's office on what to do and what to watch for as far as pneumonia goes.
My brother, who is 39, was hospitalized over a week ago with a raging pneumonia from the flu. He got a huge infection in the lining of his lung and ended up in ICU for 4 days with surgery on his lung and three chest tubes placed to help clear it up. He's still in the hospital.
Please take care of yourselves everyone. Wash those hands!! Buy antibacterial gel. Keep it with you. Stay away from sick people. Be careful....

Jamie:
I couldn't agree with you more! I called Hannah's doctor to describe her problem at midnight and then brought her into the office in the AM when she was sick. I was told what to do and what to look out for. Now with Ella I know what to do, but will keep an eye on her chest b/c she has a little cough. Maybe a trip to the doctor in the morning tomorrow just to be safe. It just comes so fast. All the things regarding this flu are so scary. In CT we just lost the first child to this flu. It is a very sad thing! Sorry to hear about your brother. Hope he gets better fast. Keep us updated.
Thanks to everyone for your well wishes!

I could have written this verbatim!!! We went to Disney World the first week of December and the last day we were there, I came down with 103 fever, spent the whole day in our hotel room!! Being almost 6 weeks pregnant and having asthma, as soon as we got back I was in the Doctors office having nebulizer treatments. Ended up being on 5 meds including a steroid and have to remain on steroids until the end of my pregnancy. I developed pneumonia, too, had a really hard time breathing despite all the meds for about 7 days and talk about ongoing fever!! Then my two girls got it (still battling it!!) and having high fevers (my oldest, 5, got as high as 105.2 and was delusional for about 30 minutes, scared the &&%$#$ out of us!!). Then my husband got it!! We have lost 2 children to the flu in our community so we have all been scared!! Drink, drink, drink!!! It's the key- force fluids as much as possible every hour on your kids, they die from the dehydration from not drinking and the high fevers. We had to stop the antiviral flu medication my girls were taking because it was only adding to the dehydration (they were vomiting and having diarrhea (side effects)).
Hope everyone is well for a wonderful holiday!!!

I hope everyone gets well soon. Kayla had a follow up with her Pulmonologist today and when we got there she had 102 fever so we are watching her and hoping it's not the flu. She did get the shot!!
