Has anyone ever tried.......
Has any one ever tried methadone for pain. I have been on it for 2 months now and I have complete relief from my pain. It does not leave me with a high feeling. I can function at a normal level. I know that it is an addictive drug, but the doctor told me I would be on it the rest of my life. She explained to me that it is a very safe opiate. i can do my roms again. I had an mri and on top of everything else c5-6 are herniated.c6-7 has bone spurs.

I've never tried it. Is it specifically used for pain or nerve damage? My Dr. is pretty conservative. I don't think he would prescribe it. Watch that MRI.
I told the spinal surgeon I knew about 50 adults ( welll, close) that all had bone spurs and disc herniations. He refuses to think Erb's has anything to do with it. Wish he could be convinced. Hope you're doing ok. What else are you taking besides the methadone? Pat

Is is possible to contact another doctor for a second opinion? Perhaps Nath or Belzberg would be more familiar with adult/obpi total body impact and be more aware of the secondary conditions because they see so many adults.
Judy I am so glad that you are FINALLY getting some relief and going back to a more comfortable life style.

You have to go to a pain clinic for the meds. I told my doc about all the other adults with the same mri, she suggested I hang out with a different people LOL.This is the only meds I am taking. I yried neurotin along with the methadone ,but the neurotin made me feel too spacey and I could not function on it. If you are in alot of pan please see a pain specialist, I wish I would have gone years ago.

My 80 year old mother takes neurontin and has not had any side effects--she thinks it does help some with pain--but not a lot. I've talked to other people who say it makes them spacey ,disoriented and sleepy.
Glad you found something that works for you. Does methadone work on nerve cells or pain receptors or muscles or what???? Sounds like something worth checking out.

Hi Judy
I heard of another person who switched from morphine to methadone for pain and she is really happy she has. No more constipation or other side affects. It came up in converstion because of your post. I want my Mum to ask her doctor about it because she has 3 crushed disc that is creating severe pain.
Thanks for your post
