JOCEY IS BACK HOME AFTER 8 DAYS AT THE TCH

We are back and happy of be in our home after 8 long days at the hospital. She is doing great but is not easy each time she see or we talk about her arm. She have three scars on her arm and a hole covered with the skin graft under the skin graft is the muscle who was transfer from her leg. She have another three incisions on her left leg two of them were done for remove the muscle and the other one was where they got the skin to cover the muscle.

She expend eight days at intermediate intensive care unit. She was immobilized for six days. Her arm was wrapped to the bed rail and her bed couldn't be moved from the position it came from the surgery room. Was hard for her be in the same position for that long time. Then the worse part was when she saw her arm. This happened Monday when the therapist did the splint. I thought I will die when I see Jocey's face. She looked to her arm less than a second. The therapist and I started to explain her this will be temporary because the Drs. will do a surgery to erase the scars into six months and will be her last surgery, we do not want she will be traumatized with all the surgeries done to her.

Nobody could understand what I felt that moment, was the worse day of my life. Never in my life I was depressed as I am now. Is a terrible sensation in our heart she had several surgeries but the previous ones can't be compare to this one. She can't walk well, she can't sit for long periods but the worse part of all is the hard impression to see her arm and all the scars she have on her tiny arm.

I recognize I am very depress of see her arm with all the scars but we trust in the Lord she will move her fingers soon. Is not the same when they tell you what incisions she will have to see it. I took photos of her arm three days after the surgery when the Doctor changed her dressing and eight days when the therapist did the splint.

As soon as I go to develop the roll I will have it available to show it because we want to aware the parents who will do this surgery to their kids in the future. I do not want anybody else get the same shock as I had. I think is more easy to work with it when you see how it will look. This do not mean the surgery didn't work is only nine days since was done, is to aware and do not get the first impression as I have, because I never was in contact with another kid who had this surgery. My husband have not seen her arm yet because is covered with the dressings and the splint. I know will be hard for him as it was for me. You only could see a section where is exposed the skin graft is a dark color and look like burned skin.

Her Plastic Surgeon who performed the muscle transfer Dr. Klebuc is the nicest Dr. I has ever seen he came to see her all mornings and nights. He check her muscle each half our to see if the fluid of blood is well on her muscle. The nurse used a doppler with a thin stick like a pencil to hear the blood running in her new muscle. She was discharged yesterday Monday night and tomorrow Wednesday he wants to see her again. Thanks for hear us I will go to bed early I have to rest has been a long week. Ivelisse

Ivelisse - I don't know what to say except that I'm so glad you are all home. I know and can somewhat imagine but can't imagine how hard it must be for you and for Jocey. I just hope that time flies really fast and things look up for all of you soon. We will continue to pray for everyone's well being and fast recovery for Jocey.

When I read your post I just wanted to cry... I understand how hard this is for you. It is very traumatic for everyone in the family. I hope and pray the surgery is a success and she will have more usage of her arm and she will forget the pain and suffering you have faced. Try to take one day at a time and keep your head up for her..She will learn strength from you. You are an awesome mommy.

I am so glad to see your post. We have been wondering about you. This surgery Jocey just had is what Dr. Nath has been talking about for Kelsey. I told her that Jocey had surgery. She still talks about meeting Jocey last summer at the hospital. I would appreciate any information you could share with us. We are still trying to decide what to do for Kelsey, although I know she is not able to lay still that long yet. Can't even get her to sit still one minute:)
