T shirts

Post by browning93 »

I was trying to find long sleeve undershirts for Michaela in case we need them after the Mod quad next week to go under the SOL splint. Since I live in Florida you'd think I was asking for organs or something! Can't find anywhere. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, LeeAnne

Yep, you can hang that up for sure in Florida, especially since it is January....getting the shorts out now. We didn't need anything under it that was long sleeved. She just wore regular shirts under it. I think long sleeves would tend to get all bunched up anyways.

You will find a whole lot of stuff if you do a search for 'organic cotton undershirts'. I used this one catalog but I can't remember the name now! (pre-menopausal moment).

There are many long sleeve t-shirts there...but you can also use short sleeve t-shirts and get some of that sleeving from your therapist...gosh, can't think of that name either....it's the tubular cotton stuff (beige) that's very thin that they use on your child's arm when they are making a splint? Actually you can ask for this at TCH.... (it can even be washed!)

I promise I will think up the name.

Maia has had very serious skin breakdown with each splint and we have no choice but to use long sleeve undershirts, or short sleeve ones with that cotton tube stuff. When her skin breakdown has to be treated - I will wash it, put prescription or desitin cream on it (depending on how bad it is) and wrap it in this soft gauze- even around the hand. So there are plenty of options if you don't have long sleeve t-shirts...

We got two long sleevers but I can't do the wash fast enough it seems. But she has many long sleeve cotton pajamas - they look like long underwear...and those work well too. But since you are in Florida you don't want to overheat her either - that can cause worse problem with prickly heat.

Try to stick to pure cotton if you can. Kid R Us has some cheap good cotton undershirts too (short sleeve).

Good luck and here's my email address in case you need some help with the splint...

here's the link to Hanna Andersson - this is a swedish catalog that we just love! Maia's been using her two long john sets from them for 2 years now..and the more you wash them the softer they get.

I only put these on Maia under the splint if it's really cold outside or if her skin breakdown is beyond it's normal limit and I really have to protect her skin.

this is where I got Maia's long sleeve t-shirts...

remember to get them tight fitting...and if they are too big just wash them in warm water and dry them - they will shrink good.

These are expensive but like I said before I only got two. I will be purchasing a couple for Maia each winter from this place.

I also bought two wool and silk undershirts - they are used for kids with eczema believe it or not - they are soft as anything - BUT I would NOT recommend them in florida!! LOL

ahhhhh...now if only I could remember the name of the cotton tubing that the therapists have.....

I also live in FL. My son Matthew had surgery Oct.30. He was so hot wearing the splint that I only put shirts on him when we were going somewhere. The few times it was cold, I put on a windbreaker that was a size or two too big. I never had to put anything under the splint. He wore overalls over it without a shirt at all, most of the time. The splint made him very hot.

The splint made him so hot we rarely put a shirt on him. Usually he wore overalls without a shirt. A few times it was cold, we pu on a windbreaker that was a size or two too big, maybe you can find one on clearance.
