Rash from the tape

Post by BarbH »

That keniso tape fell off yesterday evening after Jessies bath and there is an absolutly awful rash! It almost looks like a burn. It's all blistered and red and it's got the pattern of the tape on her skin!
Has this happened before to you guys and gails?

I did talk to the therapist...she said "Oh that happens sometimes."

Only thing is Jessicas been using it since she was 8 weeks old...she's nine months now.
What do I put on it...it's got to hurt. Aloe?

we would get that at times too with kinesio. Usually if we had it on too long, or who actually knows why sometimes it would be worse than others. We never really found anything to "soothe" it, although I can't say that our dd seemed to be in much discomfort over it. It would fade, sometimes in a few hours. Sometimes you could see faint outlines for a week. I'd put lotion on her skin because I felt that it happened more than other times because her skin was drier at times. Again, who knows. Next time try putting a layer of milk of magnesia on the skin, let it dry and then put the tape on.

Once we used a product to try to take leukotape off (leuko tape seems to be much harsher on the skin, IMO), it it did burn her (or so it looked) and she was REALLY uncomfortable and itchy. We used a mild hydrocortisone cream for that.

On tape irritations I always used some sort of diaper rash creme... not the desitin regular (because the zinc can be drying) but the new desitin easy wipe off kind - it's more creamy - or the other types of diaper rash cream like A&D (like vaseline) or the balsam ones. And then I would gauze over it so that nothing would irritate the area.

hope it's better soon...

Hi Sabrina used this tape for about a year then all of a sudden she broke out in a rash and now we aren't able to use it anymore. I tried Milk of Magnesia and also Caladryl and it didn't help. If you have any questions feel free to email me sleeplessinfl2000@yahoo.com.

Well, it's still here. She crys everytime I get near it. I have some desitin creamy...I'll try that.
Thanks so much!!

I found that Caleb rashes up whenever the tape is put on and the skin accidentally wrinkles underneath. There aren't supposed to be any wrinkles in the skin when the tape is applied. What you are describing sounds like an allergic reaction, though. I would seriously consider stopping the treatment for a while. I wonder if the manuafactorers of the tape has changed how they make the tape. Perhaps they added a new ingredient.

Hugs,

Well, Melissa left the rashed section alone last week and just put tape to support the sholder blade and it rashed as well...
It sure is sticking around, it's all lumpy and still red since my first post.
