New Brace Required
New Brace Required
What is a supination strap/brace? Is this strap used for non functional hands and arms? Just wondering cause the sling that I wear when I go out or when at work, really bothers me and hurts my elbow and arm after a short period of time. It can get very uncomfortable. Does anyone know of another brace or strap that can be worn with my particular injury and are there any pictures on the internet that I can see different braces or slings that anyone would know of? Thanks. Karen

I don't know what brace you have, but I have a good one, unforjunately they are not made anymore, but I will be more than happy to send pictures or get them made for cost if I can only find the material to construct them. The main part is a very stretchy but tough material like something used in a leg brace, - almost like neoprine, but fabric. The problem is I can't find the stuff.
If anyone has any conections for orthopedic fabrics and materials please post them.
Also I had a brace once that could have been simular to the supination strap brace- it was a cuff that went around the shoulder/bicep and crossed to the other side of the torso for support by two straps, this rig was great for stabilizing the shoulder but I came to realized that the pressure on my surgical repairs was probably worse than letting my shoulder flop.
Just my opinion;

Re: New Brace Required
Hi Karen, I found a regular sling bothersome as well. Particu;arly as more feeling returned. I have 2 hemi-slings, one isn't much different than a regular sling so I have the same issues with it. The other I didn't like at first but have gotten used to. It is a bit uncomfortable because it has to be so tight to work. In the first few months after the injury I was swelling a lot so I couldn't wear it for long periods but now I wear it all day. As I get muscle return I find having the arm hanging free allows me to use it as much as I can. Its starting to show signs of wear so I have ordered another very similar one that I'm hoping will be more comfortable - will let you know. In an earlier posting - don't remember the string - other people posted some links as well. I think the subject had to do with exercising. Here's a link to the one I use now.

These links are to products I haven't tried but look interesting. I don't think you would get that tight, soreness in the elbow with them

Re: New Brace Required
Hey Karen! I have finally stopped wearing a sling and I wear a supinn strap now! I LOVE this thing! It puts my arm in a neutral position and is very comfortable. With out the sling and being that I am very pronated, turned inl, I had TONS of pain in my shoulder being that it was twisted internally! The sstrap puts in in a more "natural" position and is COMFY! This is the one that I have and it even comes in 6 colors! YEAH! Mine is hot pink!

Re: New Brace Required
I think it is called a Neoprin? It help holds your hand in the right position. If your arm is facing out or if you hand supinates as in cupping upwards like a waiter. Type it in and look it up.
