Dr. Shenaq
Though we decided to go through with the Mod Quad, we have only met Dr. Nath when he did an eval on Michaela at a BPI picnic here in Florida. He said at the time there was a slight chance of damaging the intercostal nerve grafts already done and it took awhile for us to decide because she's worked so hard to get what hand function she has. Then when we called to set everything up,we were told that Dr. Nath doesn't accept our insurance and that Dr. Shenaq would be doing the surgery. We won't meet him till the 4th and surgery is on the 5th.Can anyone who has dealt with Dr. Shenaq share some of their experience. I think the closer we get to flight time the more nervous I'm getting. I'm diabetic and the stress is making my sugars higher than normal.Any insights or nerve calmers appreciated. LeeAnne
Re: Dr. Shenaq
I believe that Dr. Shenaq was voted the top plastic surgeon on the Houston area a couple of years ago (?). I believe he is/was head of that professional association as well. I remember reading an article about that a long time ago,I'll see if I can dig it up. People will correct me if I'm wrong but I think Dr. Shenaq is part of the original team and Dr. Nath came later. Although we use Dr. Nath because that's who was assigned to us when Maia had primary - I know so many people who are so very pleased with Dr. Shenaq as well. We've seen both Nath and Shenaq for evaluations - they both have given us the exact same evaluation at different times - just with different words.
You know - why don't you ask Lisa T to send you a copy of his Curriculum Vitae? (resume)
I know what you mean about choices like this - when you meet someone and you have faith and trust in him, it's hard to think about someone else doing it....especially on your child.
Good luck,
francine

Re: Dr. Shenaq
Dr.Shenaq is my 3 yr. old daughter's surgeon. In my opinion, he walks on water. My daughter had 2 avulsions that were repaired during primary surgery and she has made tremendous progress, much more than I ever dreamed. 2 years ago we were scheduled for mod quad but Dr. Shenaq cancelled it the day before surgery because Elizabeth was still making progress from primary and she didn't have the typical problems that would warrant mod quad. Last April Elizabeth had more nerve work done by Dr. Shenaq. I think you are in the best of hands with Dr. Shenaq, just as you would be with Dr. Nath. Dr. Shenaq is a bit more difficult to understand because English is his 2nd language but, if you write down all of your questions ahead of time, it'll help the evaluation the day before surgery. If you don't understand something, he'll explain it again.

Hello,
My son had all three for primary, Laurent, Nath and Shenaq. He has had Dr. Shenaq for Mod Quad and just recently bicept lenghtening. We have seen evals with both Dr. Nath and Dr. Shenaq. Dr. Shenaq is great. He is very careful and I think alittle more conservative than Dr. Nath. I say this only because Dr. Shenaq had us wait alittle longer for the bicept surgery because he wanted to give our son more time on his own. Also, he was scheduled for some loosening under the arm at the same time as bicept. Dr. Shenaq evaluated my son while he was asleep before he started the bicept surgery and determined that the other procedure was not needed. So if the surgery is not needed, he will not do it. Dr. Shenaq is very very friendly and will answer any question. He even saw my son on an emergency visit. I called on Monday and flew from florida to Texas on Thurs for an appoitment in his private office. Our son's progress has been amazing and surgery was handled very well. I would not worry about Dr. Shenaq, your little one is in good hands. You can email me if you wish at alisonbhatti@hotmail.com Best of luck.

I agree, Dr. shenaq did our daughter's mod quad and is scheduled to do pronator transfer this spring. He did a wonderful job with the M/Q and we trust him completely.

We also had Dr. Shenaq and thought he was wonderful. He is a great doctor. The only thing I had a hard time with was that he speaks very softly and I'm a little bit hard of hearing!!!!LOL.... I had to really focus on his words!!! He did the mod quad and it was great.

Dr. Shenaq did Taylor's Mod Quad Surgery with Dr. Armenti. We loved him! Actually made me like Dr's again. He was very reassuring and professional.
