Our daughter Bailey had the capsulodesis on 11/26. We took her brace off on Moday at Pool therapy. This went pretty good. Much better than the Modquad. We took it off and put her right in the pool. She stayed in the pool for about 1 1/2 hours and we let her do pretty much what she wanted. She even kept her brace off for the rest of the day (her choice she didn't want it back on).
Day 2 she was sore and she still didn't want anyone to touch it. It is now day 4 and she has the same attitude. She had pool therapy again today and that went pretty good but she is very tight?? or stiff???. She doesn't want us to move her arm up or down. It is coming down pretty good. It is almost to her side. It is hard for me to make her raise it up and she doesn't want me to touch it. Her splint is a little different than the one on Maia's web site. Bailey was splinted straight out to the side because of her elbow contracture.
How was the first couple of weeks for others? Any hints or advice are greatly appreciated!!! Bailey just turned 3 in December and we are having a hard time explaining why she needs to do exercises and just how important it is. I try very hard with games and little tricks to get her to move it.
How much should I be pushing her? Is this how it has been for others.
Thanks Jodi
8 Weeks post Capsulodesis
Re: 8 Weeks post Capsulodesis
Jodi - thanks for posting....we start our process on Feb 2nd and I'm pretty anxious about it...but Maia had a tough time after the mod quad so I think we're going to take it VERY slowly. 15 mins in the pool the first time and tylenol....15 mins the next day and so forth...
I'm sorry it's so hard for Bailey and hope that things get a little more easier as each day passes. She's probably just so scared of moving it = doesn't trust yet that it won't hurt her. Tell her we are thinking about her and send her a big hug!

Francine thanks for your post!
Bailey also had a very hard time with the Modquad. We had to use lots of tylenol and she only tolerated being out of the brace for small amounts of time that gradually increased. It took us over a week to get her out of the splint.
This time is different! She communitates very well. She tells us she doesn't want medicine and this time she doesn't want the splint back on. She doesn't have the same kind of pain that she had with the modquad. After the Quad she was so loose and she didn't have as much control over her movement. This time she is really stiff but she can move it more on her own. I guess I mean she is not as weak as she was last time. It is just very different. Not at all like I expected. I had no idea she would be this stiff. I guess it makes some since becuase they did tighten the capsul. I want to get is loosened back up but at the same time there is just no way I can push her too much right now. The only exercises we have been doing are those that she does on her own or with play. She lets me rub it some but other than that she doesn't want anyone to tough it. I have emailed Dr. Nath and I will call Lisa on Monday.
I wish someone could tell me if this is normal.
Thanks Jodi
