Hi Rob25,

May I know what exercise or therapy did you do for your bpi hand? Can you move your fingers?

Please advise.

Thanks,

Hi Hwee,

I have also gotten most of my hand use back. Still don't have extension at wrist or first finger joints. My pt had me use a large bowl of uncooked rice with a little bit of macaroni in it. I would just move my hand and fingers around in it. It helped develop strength and normalize sensation. As function returned she had me hide small items in the rice, feel around for them and pick them up. This helped develop motor control. I will sometimes just play with the rice while watching tv - I think it really helps. Good luck

Hi Lorrie,

Thanks for the advice. I will ask my dad to give it a try. Btw, may I know how long after the surgery did you get back your sensation?

It has been more than 3 weeks since my dad surgery and it seems like he still has no sensation for the lower arm, wrist, palm and fingers.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks,
Hwee Yong

Hi everyone,
I had a motorcycle accident in dec. 2002 which severaly streched my radial nerve. Had a emg which conferimed my nerve was dead. I havn't had a chance to get a nerve graph due to having other surgerys to put the rest of my body together and fight of three infections. I have a nerve graph set up next month with a couple of inexperienced docters on this matter. I was wondering if anyone had a idea on how long you can wait till its impossible to have a nerve graph or if the longer you wait the less likely a the chances of a good recovery.......thanks Jon

Hi Jon,

My dad's doctor told me that the best time to do is the first 6 months after the injury.

However, from the postings that I read on this site, quite a few number of people did their nerve graft after the first 6 months.

By the way, where are you from. I would suggest you go to the specialist rather then to stay with your inexperienced doctors coz it is a major operation and it would be wise to do to doctors who know what they are doing. If you are in US, there are so many specialist who are well verse in this area.

All the best,
Hwee Yong

Hi Joy. I too go to the Phila Hand Center...have had CTR of the right hand, excellent recovery. However, after returning to work, the pain was unreal. The Center performed an Emg themselves to find TOS, Ulnar nerve entrapmentand CT of the left, not mentioned in prior studies done in another venue. Do you work and if so what type of work do you do? I was clerical and have a hard time. Surgery is a difficult decision based on the risks. I hate that "dead arm" feeling...hmfpt poor choice of words maybe sensation is a better choice.
