No MDs in Boston Area

Thanks to everyone(Christopher) who recommended Dr. Water out of Boston, but unfortunatley he doesn't accept patients over the age of 20. My boyfriend is 24. Can anyone suggest an MD maybe in a surrounding state? I've read several postings regarding Dr. Belzberg out of John Hopkins in MD. That is a 6 hour drive for us. Should we try him? My boyfriend's injury is pretty much as bad as it gets. Avulsion of all nerves plus his arm which is his BP injury has a large open wound which has a "VAC" hooked up to it. He had his motorcycle accident on July 27, 2003 so I know from reading posts that time is crucial. It has been three months, three very long agonizing months of hearing the word amputation from his plastic surgeon here in Boston. The arm will be fine after the wound heals, but his MD still wants him to amputate. We are looking for hope beyond the state boarder. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks. ~~Dawna~~

My daughter is a 23 yr old rtbp..has had many problems but is slowly improving. Go see Dr. Belzberg. We saw him at Camp this summer in New YOrk and he is phenominal. Keep posting and asking quesstions. You learn so much and it's al very pertinent info. There is also so much support from the whole group. It's wonderful. p.s. The Dr that recommended Courtney to have her arm amputated came very highly recommended from her case manager and we just found him on the "questionable drs" web site for valid allegations, so you need to search everything out thoroughly.

You might also want to try, Dr. Sang Gil Lee in Boston.
He is a microsurgeon that works with nerves. He did a surgery to repair an axillary nerve on me. Not quite as major but he might be worth a try.

I'm so sorry that Dr. Waters was unable to take your boyfriend on as a patient. I was completely unaware of those conditions that he takes patients, as I only spoke with him on the phone. Is it possible that is a condition of the Childrens Hospital where he works? I believe he works at Harvard or Mass General as well. And if that is the case, he very well may work with patients older than twenty years old. You should give a call to his secratary again and check on that, at the very least she should get a decent referral from him for another doctor. Best of luck, you are doing a great thing for your boyfriend, he's very lucky to have you on his side.

Thanks Everyone & Christopher....I appreciate the feed back. I just might give Dr. Water's office another call and see if they could refer us to another MD in the clinic. I might also check out Yale's clinic in CT. I've read up on so many specialists that I think I've over-whelmed myself. He has another check-up on Thursday the 6th with his plastic surgeon at Umass Medical in Worcester, MA..... hopefully he'll have better news for us. ~~Dawna~~
