- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

Re: Punchy sue....are you out there?
Hey ladies and gents and ducks-
I just got home, nine hour drive from Baltimore and am pretty worn out. I missed Halloween but I had my hair cut real short and dyed it pumpkin orange. I have enough staples in me to challenge the Bride of Frankinstien - so I guess I celebrated my favorite holiday in my own special way.
All I am going to say about surgery now is that, surprisingly, Dr. B took three intercostals and my left phrenic, so breathing is a whole new challange. I was sure he was going to use a Surel nerve from my leg. He said he did some new thing to try to get touch sensation to my hand. True diagnosis C5-C8, he wouldn't touch T-1 since I don't have Horner's and didn't want to cause it. I'll get the write-up from the operation sometime next week and go into more details. Right now, I'm sore and tired but strangely, craving chocolate and beer.
THANX FOR ALL THE POSITIVE VIBES LOVE SUSAN

HI Susan - I'm glad you made it home safely and can sleep in your own bed tonight - that always helps.
Sounds like he did a fine job. I hope that you recover easily.

Susan, I can't think of any situation in which craving chocolate and beer would be strange......:0)
