Elbow Contracture

Post by frashley »

My 6 year old daughter has Erbs right arm. She has a moderate case I would say. Her elbow has a contracture so she is unable to straighten her arm. Does anyone have helpful hints about how we can work it out?

Dynamic splints are often used for elbow contractures.

on this page you will a comparison of two dynamic splints that are often recommended Dynasplint and Ultraflex.

Dynamic splints put slow pressure into the joint and they stretch the tendons. Both splints are very expensive but insurance usually covers it. Both are worn at night to get the most stretch when the body's relaxed.

There are many of us here who have used one or the other type of splint so we'll be able to field more questions for you.

Sometimes the contracture is so bad that bicep tendon lengthening surgery is necessary - there are some here whose children have had that surgery as well - I'm sure they will come forward.
