I went to see Jocey at her lunch time and they don't allowed me to be with

Post by Jocelisse's Parents »

What could I do? I went to see Jocey at her lunch time to the cafeteria but I can't because the receptionist said I have to talk with the school principal. I can't understand why they do not want to leave me share with my daughter at the lunch time. Did somebody else had the same problem at a public school. I told to Dr. Nath what is going on and he gave me a phone number for the principal call him I called him to see if the principal contact him but his secretary told me nobody had called there.
Tomorrow I will have the ARD meeting at her school to evaluate her special needs case I hope they change their mind about this matter. I feel very sad because Jocey will have her surgery next Monday too. I can't understand how many people you could find without a human heart. I could understand if the school said we will limit the lunch visits to Monday and Fridays only if you have a normal kid who do not need any special help but not for a kid who have special needs.

Oh Ivelesse, I do hope that they change their tune and let you visit Jocey for lunch. We will keep up good thoughts about this and I just bet that Dr. Nath takes care of it.

God Bless

If your child attends a public school they can NOT keep you from going to the school any time you want. If you are going to observe a teacher they normally ask that you schedule ahead of time to make sure there are no test. My sister use to have lunch a couple times a week with her girls at school.

Find out what the school policy is on visiting your daughters school. For example, find out where you need to sign in as a visitor... find out if you need a visitors badge... how much will it cost you to purchase a school lunch for yourself...things like that.

You know what Ivelisse, it does not matter if Jocey has special needs or not. Our kids grow up so fast there are just times we like to have lunch with them and their friends. Don't let the school bully you. If they will not let you have lunch with Jocey, it would make me wonder what they are hiding!

Keep us informed about what happens.

Please listen to JOY...

You have the right to go to the school and have lunch and help your daughter. If they say no! Go to the superintendent of Schools.

I am sure they will give you the story about how hard it is on the other kids to see a child have their Mom and its not fair.... but that is not your problem!

Don't let them tug on your heart strings. Jocey need to be with you and needs your help. You are entitled to go to the school at anytime. You MUST sign in and that is for the safety of all the children.
I hope the next time you post you have good news.

I agree they may be hiding something!!!
She's your child. I would fight. If they won't allow you to help her at lunch then maybe you should hit them where it hurts and make them hire a person to help her during school..A personal assistant..It would be rediculous to pay someone to do whay you are willing to do for free.
I wonder if the school would like to be sued for the pain and suffering your daughter may face if she falls down while trying to get lunch tray to her seat!
I would make your wheel very squeeky!!!
The schools wonder why there are so many problems!! They create a lot of them!
You have to fight for your rights

I'm sorry that you are going through so much with the school. In my experience the private school my child attended was very strict about parents coming at lunch time - I had to get permission ahead of time. In the public school my kids attend now - parents are welcome any time for lunch but must sign in at the office first. With the Kindergarten age kids they ask that if your child still has separation anxiety and doesn't want you to leave after they see you that maybe you should try NOT to visit them at lunch because it is too difficult for the child. If your daughter has no problems with you leaving once you get there I really do not see why they would not want you to visit at lunch time. Maybe they've had bad experiences in the past with parents who disrupt the class schedule. The receptionist is probably not aware of your child's needs and was just doing what she was told to do. I hope that your ARD meeting goes well for you. Christy

You should continue to pursue seeing your daughter at lunchtime. My oldest has special needs and has been in an Early Intervention program for 2 years. Her teacher has been more than gracious and wants parents to come and spend time at school. I intend to do so, as a matter of fact, next week while I am off work recovering from surgery. I cannot believe any school would discourage this practice unless there is something to hide. Continue to pursue this issue. Remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Good luck.

I would definetly keep up the fight! For it is your daughter and her well being at risk. If the principal
does not help, I would go to the School board. At our public school we can eat lunch with our children, anytime we want. We just have to let them know by 8 am, so they can prepare enough. I would wonder if they are hiding something. For if there was geniune kindness there, they would let you come.
Keep on being strong.
I wish you luck.
Sincerely,
Debbie
