picked up CT scans today
It was recommended that Bradley have a CT scan with 3-D reconstruction done of both shoulders. I just picked them up and looked at them. I could cry. What a reality shock! The head of his humerus on his injured side is almost non-existant. Think of an apple on one side, and a dime on the other. Even the clavicle is shaped differently. I feel like puking!!! Not only am I faced with how asymetrical he looks on the outside, now I relize how asymetrical he is on the inside. Man am I pis*&^%*&$! I suppose there is nothing I can do to prevent this from happening. The child has PT 3x's week, TES, MFR, and everything else under the sun. Sorry to vent. I really hope this helps the doctor in determining what he will need in the future. I almost wish I didn't look at them. FYI for anyone thinking of having this done....Bradley had to be put under anesthesia for the CT scan. For our first attempt we tried Chlorilhydrate (a strong sedative), and it didnt work. It was a very tramatic experience to see my child put under anesthesia. I am glad this is over with, and will not be doing it again anytime soon.

Re: picked up CT scans today
My daughter had that CT scan yesterday in Houston. It is really amazining what the doctors can see with this scan. I haven't seen Brittany's yet, but Dr. Nath showed me one from another little girl and showed my what he was looking for. Brittany is 6 and didn't need anything. I was so proud of her. She just laid there for about 30 minutes and never moved. I just hate that our kids have to go through all of this. It just pi*!*! me off every time something else comes up. Dr. Nath is wanting to see if he needs to shave off part of the collar bone before the osteotomy is done. Good luck with everything. Kimberly

Allison - I just wanted to respond to tell you that tommorrow at the pa picnic I'll give you a great big hug - these scans are very hard to look at. Reality is there in black and white.
I wish it could have been better for both of you,

Allison,
I know EXACTLY how you feel. My daughter didn't have a CT scan done but she had x-rays taken of both of her shoulders after we saw Dr. Nath last summer. He said that she was subluxated and needed the caps surgery. I thought that she was doing okay. Well after the x-ray I was sick to my stomach. The head of the humerus on the affected side was so much smaller than the other side and the bone was far from the joint. (Of course, the x-ray report just mentioned delayed ossification on the affected side but no subluxation, which was not true!) My daughter had the caps surgery this April so I am very interested to get another look at her shoulder joint later on to see the changes. Of course, I will be extremely nervous to see the results though. At least we have a place where we can go and discuss our feelings and we will always find someone that has been through the same thing.
