Courtney's report

Post by shelbel1950@aol.com »

Hi all...just wanted to let everyone know that Courtney's back up and running...good report from the family doc in Saginaw yesterday. Incision looks good and no infection. She's anxiously awaiting her scripts from Dr Nath so she can get on the move...She went back to school the next day, for only one class, but she went...I was able to go back to Saginaw a bit more on the comfortable side....thanks to all who asked about Cara...she has 51 stitches and is SLOWLY on the mend but a difficult process...no bending at all...standing and lying only but we're thankful for that, until those stitche comes out in another week...I'm learning so much and am so grateful for that...I love helping Courtney when she asks...Hope everyone is continually growing and changing and mooving on with themselves...there is so much opportunity...we haven't heard from our Senator about her hospital bill yet, but....I'm not a quitter, that's for sure...I've even been able to help someof my patients at the hospital where I'm a social worker...I'm grateful for that......enjoy....it's too short............Courtney's mom, Shelley

HI Shelley,

Thank you so much for the update on Courtney and Cara, so glad to hear they are on the mend and that Courtney was able to go to a class.

By question to you is How are you holding up? We need to be stronge to keep our spirits up so our children's spirit stay up. That is one of many things I learned with all we went through with Ryan. It is nice to have a close family.

Lots of love and hugs,

Karen

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

Hi Shelley,

We are doing fine, really busy with teaching, tutoring and just everyday things, Glad to hear you are ok, seems we become very stronge when we have to. I was so glad that I had Aaron, work, and friends to fall back on when David went to stay with Ryan after I left him once he came out of the hospital and rehab.

That seems like a long time ago and yet it also seems like yesterday. Something I don't think I will ever forget. Just so greatful he is doing so well.

Take care, we are always here for you.

Love, hugs, and Kisses

Karen and David
