I can't tell you what it's like yet, but in a couple of weeks I will. If the Pulmunologist ok's me for surgery, I am going to have mine amputated on 8/25. I had my accident May of 2000 with no recovery at all. My right arm is dead even up on my shoulder. The Dr. agreed with me that taking it off at the shoulder socket is best. So that is our plan. I am totally convinced this will help me. We think some of my pain probably comes from the arm's weight pulling on any nerve buds that still have any life. I realize not all the pain is from that, but I think things will be some better anyway.
I think it is going to be very freeing! I will let you all know how it goes.

Susie, what kind of injury did you have? What type of surgery and how long after the accident did you have it?
Re: Amputation as an option
Hi Susana,
Damage to my spine & shoulder have left me with all the nerves that make up the brachial plexus, plus the phrenic nerve and some other little nerves dead. My arm is totally flaccid & my right diaphragm is paralyzed. I have to be on oxygen 24/7.
I had exploratory surgery almost 2 mos. after the injury to see if nerve grafting was an option. He told me it wasn't. I had to wait and see if there would be any re-generation of the nerves.
It's been 3 yrs. now and not a single nerve recovered! The weight of the arm is killing my back, neck, & shoulder. So after careful consideration, I have decided to have it amputated. I think I will be much better off in so many ways. The only reason to keep it is for looks and so many more reasons to get rid of it. So I'm going to! So if you happen to think of me on Aug. 25th. say a prayer.
