disclosing old OB to new OB

Post by admin »

I am pregnant and thus must go to a new OB. They want to know my old OB's name. I gave them records from the hospital and OB with my last delivery with the MD's name blacked out. I do not see that it matters who the person was, but what happened. My husband is afraid that they are going to think I am some psycho woman since I won't disclose it. Any of you refuse to say? The new OB's nurse is adamant that I tell the name but I refused to in our first meeting today. She is going to see what the MD has to say about it. I just do not want my old OB contacted in any way nor do I want to ever be accused of spreading "ill will" against my old OB. By the way, I am demanding a c-section this time and this OB agreed to it with phone history only and without even having met me, so I do not see how it matters who did what with my last delivery.
Any of you have similar experiences and what did you do? Thanks

I had to go to a new OB and new Pediatrican after a bpi. Trust me to say that the new OB figured it out for themselves why you have changed OB from the medical history. The positive thing was that I was treated with kid gloves. If anything, I was seen ASAP with a quick call to the office. Also, a birth plan was written up for a C-section and signed by the doctor (thanks to francine for this insight). Also, my attorney waited til post-partum to request the new OB records. But if you feel this strong, I hope that they honor your wishes.

If you do not wish to tell, don't. My only concern for you is the on call MD, if for any chance your new OB is not there for delivery. You don't want your old MD.

yes- the C-section "prescription" so that there's no way anyone can dispute the need for a c-section if this is how you choose to go this time....

do we need to have a backup group or at least know the names of another high risk group in case something goes wrong in the last minute OR if you feel your doctor is not treating you correctly in the last minute and you need to "fire" him and get someone else in there fast? or if the doc doesn't show up and in comes a resident and you need a better doc in there asap?

what do you think about a backup group? is this ever done?

Sounds fine to me. The doctor obviously did not argue w/ you. More power to you for sticking to your feelings. :)
