I am having a bone density scan tomorrow.
Since I am turning 50 this month, my primary care physicial wanted me to get one as a baseline to check for osteoporosis. Usually they scan only the spine, but because of the bpi, he has ordered a special scan of my bpi arm, shoulder and hand. It will be interesting to see what the test reveals.
Have any of you had this done on your bpi side?

Bone density test
Re: Bone density test
Nancy:
I haven't had it done, but I would think that it would be very interesting to see what the results are on the bpi arm. I hate milk, so it would be extra good for me to have one done. I probably need to wait till I get older, maybe? What do they do? Just scan you sorta like a MRI or x-ray?
Hope everything goes well!!

Re: Bone density test
It's supposedly a very easy scan, more like an xray than an mri in that it is over very quickly and there is no preparation other than to wear loose clothing and no metal.
I'll let you all know how it goes.

My gynecologist never mentions my arm but I often wonder if it is less. I am due for another one and will ask for it thanks Nancy for the idea. I wonder if our leg bones are smaller on that side. I know my leg is colder just like my arm
I have had two already - ok I am a bit older than you all. I had the same results on both tests - I have the bone density of a young adult amazing but true I had two different labs for the scan. When I received the results from the first test I was informed that due to my high bone density I was at higher risk for cancer!
When I spoke to my gynecologist he said that it was reaching he never heard of such a scary report before. He said he thought they must have assumed that I had too much estrogen therefore in danger. I never took Hormone replacement. He ordered another test with the exact same results. The doctor was curious about my results because of the lack of HRT. It is just a guess on my part but I was always a walker and walked long distances when commuting to and from work and school. As I got older I walked my way through Adolescents II. I do not like meat but eat it but I love veggies and cheese and fruit. I think all of the walking is a major contributor to this along with family genes. weight bearing exercise is really good for us. I walk about two hours a week with a friend I hate walking alone.
Deanna I never drank milk nor did I take calcium supplements because I would get stomach aches. I think it is just in my genes.
