new to this site

Post by jeff »

This site is a wealth of information. I have searched for days trying to find information on bpi. My husband was in a roll over accident June 12 and suffered a dislocated shoulder, it took six hours from the time of the accident before they could do a reduction. It has now been six weeks and he has no movement from his elbow down, and lots of pain. We are doing therapy twice a week and have been refered to KU Med center to a DR.Gronseth (not sure about the spelling) at the end of August. I was just wondering if anyone here has had anything done at KU? We have also had an EMG that showed sever nerve damage. This is the first time we have ever even heard of all of this and I guess we are feeling very overwhelmed. I am so glad I found this site, it is so very hard to be hopeful with this kind of injury. My husband just started his new job in construction after years of being a autobody repair man, and he loves his new job. As you can imagine he thought he could just go right back to work, so dealing with the depression, loss of wages and no insurance, not to mention the severe pain, and loss of sleep has made it unbearable for him. Any tips on how to cope with it all would be much appreciated. I still have hope that we will go to this new doctor and he will hand us a miracle, but from what I have read he has a long road ahead. I wanted to thank you all for sharing your stories, and I feel so much better just knowing we are not alone. Thank you.

Hi Mr & Mrs. Jeff

Im am sorry thought you accident has brought you here but glad you found this site. There is a lot of knowledge here. I assume KU is Kansas? I have never heard of that dr but i will say that time is critical if you have nerve damage. You have a better chance recovery with early treatment and diagnoses. There are a few drs that will look at you records help you. I went to Dr Teil at LSU. There is also Dr Nath at Texas childrens Hospital that should be closer to you. Their links are on this site. I would try to contact one of them before I waited til the end of August with no action.

The pain is from nerve damage your nerves send out a signal to your arm and hand and because of the damage the do not get good feedback. Therefore your brain sends out an alarm usaully in the form of stinging burning pain. The best cure for the pain is staying busy. Drugs will curb it but you will soon figure out the side effects are as bad as the pain.

also check out this site it is more TBPI oriented and there is a lot of good info there.

Keep us posted on Jeffs progress. Education is your best friend. I know more about bpi than some of the drs i have seen. There is good drs that specialize in bpi but if you are educated you can better understand thier methods of treatment. Good Luck we'll be praying for you.
