We're back from BCH -- wow what a day!
The EMLA cream was a blessing, I will never have any type of injection done on this boy without it in the future- it was a breeze, he didn't flinch or feel a thing -- now waking up was a totally different story, he was a nasty mean little guy- like a drunk in the middle of a fight, to make matters worse, I scheduled his follow up with Waters right after the MRI-- BIG mistake! TJ was not up for that kind of a visit then and there, he got sick from the anesthesia in the waiting room, he still can't walk without falling over, I'm feeling like I'm in for a long night.
At least we got good news, there is definite improvement and obvious motion improvement they'll be getting us the exact measurements compared to the pre-op MRI within a couple of weeks -- he's still having a hard time with the external rotation with his elbow at his side, but we can still work on that-- Dr Waters feels if this still is an issue in a few years we can consider future surgery, although that's difficult to hear, we're glad it's still a long ways away and we can still work and fight against it-- back to therapy in the morning, if I can get him to sleep tonight LOL
MRI & EMLA
Re: MRI & EMLA
Jamie - so glad this is behind you now and glad that the EMLA worked out.... I feel the same way about EMLA. Maia's IV fell out in the middle of the night of surgery and I wouldn't let anyone near her unless they used EMLA...even though we had to wait 3 hours, I didn't care. They inserted the IV basically in seconds and she didn't feel a thing and went right back to sleep. EMLA is medicine with a heart - thank you to whoever put this stuff on the market!!
I hope TJ sleeps well tonight!
and you, too,
francine

Re: MRI & EMLA
We were at BCH Monday to see Dr. Waters also. It would have been nice to meet you although it doesn't sound as though TJ would have wanted any company. We will be going back in April to hopefully see even further improvement from Sarah's surgery in October. We are off to PT this am also. I hope that you were able to get some rest and that TJ is feeling much better.
