I need advice
O.K Yesterday I took a nice trip. I fell into a hole that was covered up with grass. I went to the doc today and my leg is not broken but has alot of tissue damage and I was told to stay off of it.I can't use crutches(it is on my bpi side). He wanted me in a wheel chair and I refused. When I had my toe surgery I was able to walk on my heel, but this time the leg hurts from knee down. Does any one have any suggestions...........

I don't know what to say... a walker does not work and how would you use a wheel chair? you need both arms to move it unless electric...
I have to research this one... I will talk to you...
I am not home now...
Poor Judy...

Judy - how about having them brace your leg in such a way so that the brace takes the pressure off the muscles that need to heal ? Talk to an orthotist who is a whiz at leg stuff. Is anything torn? If so - then you really have to stay off of it. But if it's not torn, maybe this idea will be acceptible? Can you get someone to do some hands on stuff for you to clear the shock of the fall and increase your circulation?
Hope you feel better soon and figure out a way to become mobile. I'll keep on brainstorming.

If you don't give it the time to heal it will take much longer. Where is it damaged ie the leg or foot or both. A bandage will only give some support why can't you hire an electric wheel chair. In the long run it will enable your leg to heal faster. To improve circulation and so the healing process have a bucket of cold water and put your leg in it then in hot water alternating between hot and cold. If its the foot then a figure 8 bandage may help. For bruising arnica(from health food shop) is good. Hope all goes well but whatever it will proably 6-8 weeks maybe more depending on the damage. Think of the long term a wheelchair(electric) for 6-8 weeks will get you back in action a lot faster. Just my opinion I wish you luck

First thing that came to mind is a walking cast. That would keep the area stable but give you the mobility you need. Other than that I would agree with the rented electric wheel chair.
Good luck Judy. How horrible for you.

Re: I need advice
Thanks for all the advice. I stayed in and off my leg all weekend. I went yesterday to my pt and he suggested a brace for support. I have been wearing it when I want to get around and it has helped take the pressure off. I think it will take time but I am starting to feel better. P.S. Thanx Francine!
