Hi everybody,
Has any one had any experience of these trials, i have heard that it can help with pain.
Its in a spray form, directed under the tong.
If anyboy knows any more please let me know, im on stacks of medication thats not helping me, i dont know what to do.
On the positive side, i rode a bike yesterday(scooter), first time since my accident 2 years ago, it felt fantastic, gave me a real confidence boost!!!

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

The company who make the spray are GW Pharmaceuticals based in the UK, but trials are now underway throughout the world following the success of the UK trial which is now in the final phase before the spray is released as a presription drug. I'm very glad about this, I've smoked cannabis for years for the bpi pain, and I would much rather use the spray, cannabis is great for pain relief but smoking it is not healthy, and here in New Zealand the authorities take a dim view of its use for that or any purpose. Decriminalising its use for pain relief is also decriminalising the millions who already use it and risk arrest as a result. I'm not a criminal or a druggie, I am a 44 yr old mother of 3 who goes to PTA meetings, helps coach my son's soccer team and generally lives a blameless existence, yet these stupid laws mean I am currently considered a criminal and if I grow my own (which is already allowed in many countries for pain relief) I could be sent to prison-yet I can go to the doctors and get an opiate or codeine based painkiller which is far more dangerous than the spray, legally and without question. Supply here in NZ is controlled by gangs who I have to approach to get supplies-organised crime is currently getting the financial benefit of this drug which our governments could be getting.
OK, getting off my soap box now-it's minus 3 today in NZ and my arm is KILLING me, hope you guys are faring better up there in the Northern summer :0)

I completly understand youre situation with the ridiculas laws in this world. I smoke cannabis for the pain, but also risk the prospect of jail, hear on the Isle of Man i could get banged up just for a roach.
Anyway one of the trial centres is based in Liverpool,
only a half hour flight accross the pond, fingers crossed.
Hope the temperature picks up soon, it kills me when i get cold in the bad arm, ive got a fleacy heat blanket that you just plug in and wrap arround the arm, neck, shoulder.It does work a treat.

I know it's not much consolation....but here in the Northeast USA it's been REAL crappy weather this spring. We've had rain about 6 weekends out of 7 with temps running about 15 degrees below normal.
All your (and other contributors) efforts are greatly appreciated. It's a real "godsend" when you are affected by such a severe injury to find friends and "hands-on" (joke here) advice here. Thanks for all your help!

Thanks Lyn! I just think about how little I knew and understood about tbpi 23 yrs ago and most of all how much I'd have loved to talk to others with the injury when I was a newby.
The weather has done the usual NZ thing-today it was HOT, 20 degrees (around 68F)bearing in mind tomorrow is the midwinter solstice that's bluddy warm, I just got from the beach with the kids! At least it rarely rains on the East coast of NZ where I live, no real rain since November.....hope your summer cheers up a bit SOON :0)
