What do you guys think....

Amanda has an ear infection on top of the flu right now. If that isn't bad enough, we had the strangest episode last night. She was very rammy all night and then at 4 AM started screaming hysterically while staring at her bpi arm. She is only two but she kept saying bees, bees! She was almost in a trancelike state. I was sure she was having severe pain in her arm but then she started screaming that ants were on her feet while pulling her legs up to her stomach. This lasted about two hours and then she finally calmed down. She still hasn't gone to sleep. (it's now 9:00)I called the pediatrician and he thinks it is night terrors. My gut feeling is that it is a reaction to the antibiotics. What do you guys think?

Rachel - trust your gut. Maybe he can switch her to another antibiotic? or is this one almost done? I'm a big believe in 'gut' messages.

Hope she settles down soon and you both get some sleep! If not, bring her over and the four of us can stay up together screaming...Maia's doing the same (minus the insects though)

I think it sounds like night terrors, but then again I have only seen it through the eyes of my inlaws...my kids never had them thank goodness!

Hi. I would go with your gut feeling also. What kind of antibiotic is she on? I would find out all the side
effects to this. Then I would see if it is related to the medicine. If it is see if you can switch to another. As far as nightmares go, it could be this also, on top of it.
Just my opinion.

Thanks for the responses. I went with my gut and stopped giving her the antibiotic (Omnicef). I just checked a website for the side effects and one of them was dizziness. Also, I forgot to mention that she is severely allergic to amoxicillan and the site also said that if you are allergic to amoxicillan you should consult your doctor BEFORE taking Omnicef! Geez, you'd think I'd learned my lesson with following doctor's advice as word. They don't know everything. I'll be checking on all her prescriptions before giving them to her again! Well, I'm taking her in tomorrow morning. I hope it's out of her system enough so that she can sleep tonight.

ohhhh I hate earaches but if you can stay away from the antibiotics you will prolly have less of them anyways

I'm so glad you trusted your 'gut'. I believe that these gut feelings are Divine Guidance and to not trust them would be almost disrespectful. Hope Amanda does better really soon.
