My son Michael loves to go bow hunting with his father. We just recently came back from a trip to Columbus Georgia were he went turkey hunting with the Realtree pro staff Michael Waddell. He went fishing with Bill Jordan and met David Blanton and many others. It was a trip of a life time for us and especially for little Michael. While we were there they filmed over ten hours of little Michael and will be on TV on the Outdoor channel in July.
My question is this. Michael is only 6 yrs old and will need surgery on his shoulder. Did any of you find that the surgery made it hard or impossible to draw back on your bow with the effected arm? It would be a terrible thing for him to loose his ability completely to draw back on his bow. It's hard enough for him when he practices in the yard. Please let me know how you are doing.

Any Bow Hunters out there?
Re: Any Bow Hunters out there?
Hi, I'm Larry/35/N.C. I also bowhunt but I haven't had any surgery so I can't really comment on that subject.
But I'm glad to hear he's really interested in the outdoors. Good luck and tell him not to give up even if he does or does not have surgery let us know how it goes. ( P.S. it must have been cool to meet all those outdoor personality's)

Hi Larry,
Thanks for your reply. Yes it was awesome to meet everyone there. They are such wonderful people with the biggest warmest hearts. It felt like we left family behind. Do you draw back with your effected arm? How it for you? Thank you.

Hi Patty, Thank you for the heartfelt feelings as for the answer to your question yes I draw it back with my effected arm wich is my left. I cannot hold my arm above my chest. I have to hold bow upward most of time and pull back string with left at same time with downward motion push bow out with right. If you ever have any questions send them here or to my E-mail. Take care Larry

Re: Any Bow Hunters out there?
What day & time July will the show air. My husband is a hunter (not bow) and has a bpi to his right arm since birth. I would like for him to see the show since he seems to feel alone at times. He never talks about it and is constantly reminded. Thank you
Re: Any Bow Hunters out there?
Hi Michele
It is not unusual for adult/obpi not to talk about their arms. I am glad to see you posted. I hope your husband comes to the boards and reads about all the other obpi who share his experiences.

My son Gavin did a little archery ( not sure if it's the same thing) after he had shoulder surgery, in fact I e mailed Francine some pictures of him drawing back his bow about 3 months post operatively - he found it a little difficult at first, but once he regained his strength, it was no problem for him.
He had a latissimus dorsi transfer to teres major for external rotation and also a sub scapularis release at the same time.
Hope this helps a little

Hi eveyone!
Michael, myself and his dad will be on the Outdoor Channel next week! The show is called Realtree Road Trips with Michael Waddell. The dates are Wednesday July 23 at 4:00 PM , Friday July 25th at 8:00 AM and Sunday July 27th at 10:00 PM. This channel is offered by Direct TV. I don't think Cable carries it,but you can always ask your cale provider. I hope all of you will be able to watch.
We talk to Michael Waddell all the time. He called just the other day to see if Michael got his turkey yet. They sent it to a taxidermist and they shipped it to us. It's right next to me right now as I type.
We are so excited about the show. I am not to excited about seeing how heavy I was. I started Weight Watchers in January of this year and joined a place called Curves back in March. I am doing great. I have lost 35 pound now and still need to loose another 50. By the time we go back to Georgia for Michael to take his first deer I am hoping to suprise everyone.
I hope you all enjoy the show.
