Thank you so much for your informative site UBPN! It has provided the first clear and useful information & resources we have received to date despite the online searches and variety of specialists and therapists our son has seen.
We just found out about the camp and now understand the potential long term effect of this condition for our 8 mos old infant who also currently is wearing immobilizing Dennis Brown Bar braces for bilateral club feet. Would the babbysitter be willing to accomodate caring for him with the akwardness that the braces present for carrying in addition to his right BPI?
We really would love to come to learn more and network with other families during this crucial timing window. Also is sponsorhip avail. for our whole family (2 adults, and 3 kids-8, 3 & 8mos old)?
Do you happen to know if attending the clinics and the camp would qualify for reduced or free airfare for medical reasons?
Lastly does the camp offer fish &/or vegetarian meals, if not could we bring foodstuffs that require refrigeration?

Re: Infant with BPI
Hi Kiela:
First, we're still working on the babysitting portion of camp planning. However, I know that many of the children will have bpis, so I'm sure that the babysitters will be prepared for braces and the general caring that our kids will need.
Sponsorship is only available for the bpi child and one adult. Unfortunately, our funds are not yet to a point where we can sponsor entire families. It is our goal to allow everyone to attend camp for free -- but we're not there yet. You might want to apply for sponsorship for you and your child and then approach local community organizations for additional sponsorship funds. This may offset your costs.
I would imagine, since clinic is offered, that you may be able to receive reduced airfare. You may wish to contact tami@ubpn.org. She handles the Wings program and could help you with this issue.
Camp will offer vegetarian fare for those who request it on your application form. I believe they might offer it anyway. When the board met at the camp in March, vegetarian dishes were available. There is a salad bar, fresh fruit and vegies at each meal. Plus, one night we had vegetarian lasagna and the other night, I believe we had another vegie dish.
Hope this helps and hope to see you and your family there!!!
