terminology - tes / nmes

Post by admin »

We have been here 3 years ago . Anxiety and depression overwhelmed us and we stopped visiting this site. Brave enough to start all overs. We were familiar with the old message board. Our son had the mod quad ( dr Nath ) 3 yrs ago at TCH. Today, has flexion deformity at elbow, no extension at wrist and fingers and a winged scapula. What does TES / NMES mean and does anybody have experience with the DYNASPLINT - and what components of this gadget, also its use, and cost. I am from South Africa and our currency does not buy much. The Dynasplint has many components eg for extension and flexion are separate units.Brachial plexus related splints may include components for the shoulder elbow and wrist_fingers.

Hi Feizel...

I have TES/NMES comparisons written up here:
http://www.injurednewborn.com/maia/estim.html

I have Dynsplint and Ultraflex splint (both are elbow dynamic splints) written up here: http://www.injurednewborn.com/maia/splints.html

In short, TES will grow muscles and NMES will strengthen that which has grown. TES is just wonderful - we've had great results. Actually I've never heard anyone talk negatively about TES at all.
Maia uses TES now for 2 years.

We had both the dynaplint and the ultraflex splint as you will read. Our personal preference was the ultraflex splint because it was custom fitted and because it moved around Maia's arm less because it fit so well... we never achieved a really great fit with the dynasplint...But that is just personal preference...just like two people that wear the same size pants will fit into the pants differently.

Once you read those pages, I'd be happy to answer any further questions you may have.

Good luck,
francine

ps - where in south africa are you from?

thanx Francine.. will read those downloads and will get back to you..We are from a suburb of a town Alberton which is 20 mins from the centre of Johannesburg on a quiet day. we are also 40 mins due south from Johannesburgh International Airport on a quiet day, and linked by major freeways. We are in the province renamed since our world famous elections to Gauteng which is an indigenous word for 'city of gold '.There is not much of that in our hands. We are 4.5 hrs from the coastal city of Durban and about 14 hrs by road to the beautiful city of Cape Town. we are the most populated province and home to people from the rest of the world.
