Any Adult Dislocated ?

Post by Lenni »

Hello all, I have a 7 yr old daughter with a ROBPI and and she is dislocated. Like many others I am doing my research to hopefully find out what I need to do to help her. Are there any adults out there with OBPI that are now or have been dislocated in there lifetime and if so, what was recommended for treatment, how long hae you been dislocated, and what kind of dislocation?

Thank you so much ,

Thank you Tom and Anna. I ask this because my 7 yr old is dislocated posteriorly and we have talked to 3 differen't Doctor's whom all say something different. I want to make the best choice possible for my Daughter , so that she can live with it and we can too.

I am curious about adult's with obpi because one of the doctor's said anyone with obpi will have the same conditon as my daughter and therefore he felt we should just focus on gaining more movement for her through a muscle and tendon transfer.

Once again, thank you both.

i ve had physio the past couple of months with two different physios due to changing from the childrens service to the adult but my child physio thinks that my elbow may be dislocated and so does the other(i think) but we can't tell without a x-ray but it doesn't hurt probably due to lack of sensation but it would be intresting to se if it was though.

Lenni -

we're in the same boat now...

Maia will be getting her David brace probably next week and I will immediately know if it will be strong enough to hold her humerus "in". (by means of the points that Dr. Nath told me to look for, for the bone being in position).

If it truly does hold it in there then I have this feeling that we may have a fighting chance at strengthening the musculature to hold it in on its own.

I spoke to a mom in Houston and she told me that her daughter (also 7 now) had a dislocation and they did a ton of NMES and therapy on the shoulder and the bone went back in and is being held very nicely now so they were able to avoid surgery.

We haven't done NMES yet on Maia but I sure will start if I think this brace will hold the bone in its place...and then maybe I"ll hold off on the surgery and give her some time to make this happen.

I'll let you know when we get the brace.....

If it is a point of more movement comparded to a dislocation problem. If I would of pick for me movement would of come first. In my time I never had a choise for surgey at all. Iam glad to see there are options now.GOD BLESS I cant belive that the brace is still around I wore one when I was about two I had that brace on every night and If anyone tells me that I wore that brace gust to stop my arm from a dislocation problem that never really hurt me just a diconfort till I straghten it myself.

Hi Lenni,

I didn't reply to the post earlier because I have never been dislocated. So I can't help you out with my experience because I haven't any in this situation!

I like Nancy don't remember being dislocated.

I asked the good old big brother 14 years my senior and he said that I was from time to time... don't know what they did for it. I have never had surgery.
