Ella did NOT enjoy aqua therapy =(

Mariella had her first day of aquatic therapy today. She went in the water just fine for the first few minutes, but after that...FORGET IT! She did not want to be in the water or even look at the therapist. She is only 18 months old so I think it is a mixture of the new environment and the new therapist. I will try one more visit next week to see if she adapts a little better. If not, the therapist will give me ideas to use at my parents heated pool. If I end up doing it at my parents pool I will ask my birth to three therapist to meet me at the pool there once a month or so. Once Summer is over and the pool is closed I can try the aquatic therapy facility again since Ella will be 2 yrs old. What do you guys think?

Krista, Katie did not like the water either, but we took lots of toys (and one of her security blakets) in with us and did play therapy with the toys at first to get her more acclimated to the water. As with anything, perserverance is the key to success. Don't give up!! Our thoughts are with you both.

I cant remember any time ever that I did not go in the water with Max, I think that helped greatly. The therapist often would not even hold him in the water, but come over and show me what to do with him, also, I remember in the beginning he had a cut off time of about ...20 minutes at about that age- and that would be all he was interested in, at first he would only stay in about 10 minutes...before crying, We started at about 4 mos old.

ps, If you think she didnt like it and you cant find a way to get her to enjoy it I think it could affect the quality of benefit she gains so use your best judgement, mommy knows best!

I also got in the pool with my son and therapist. That was the only way he'd get in at first.

Suvi didn't like aqua therapy either... And it didn't help that I got into the pool with her and the PT.

So we pretty much forgot it for now and will try again later.

I think she just does not like water... Well she likes it as long it is just to her knees, but anything above that.... There's no way I'm getting her to go in..
