Kinesio tape sensitivity

Post by JessicasMom »

My daughter Jessica is 8 and just started back with weekly OT this year. Her therapist
was using Kinesio tape weekly, but Jessica developed a sensitivity (allergy?) to it. Just wondering if this happened to anyone else and if so is there any way to still use the tape (different brand, cream first?)

Our son developed an allergy and we haven't found anything else he can use. He actually got so allergic that he really cannot even wear normal bandaids, they all give him red welts and irritated skin.

My son has very sensitive skin and developed an allergy to the kinesiotape as well. We were advised to put Milk of Magnesia as a barrier before we applied the tape. We put the milk of magnesia on his skin, then let it dry and applied the tape. It worked very well for a few weeks. The tape wouldn't last as long with the MOM on his skin, but it served it purpose. Hope this helps!

I have found that spider tape didnt leave the typical reaction on my skin as kinesio tape did. Might be worth a try.
Good luck to Jessica!

We did the Milk of magnesia thing too when my daughter was using the tape. We would also use olive oil to take it off and that seemed to help with redness.
