Mary - I think they tried to communicate to the mainstream which is all about painfree and easy. I think it's going to take I don't know what, to get women to say no to hospitals, epidurals and being induced. Too many women have had successful births with the interventions - it's reputation hasn't been tarnished enough (for hospitals to stop doing interventions).
I'm really glad that one message was VERY CLEAR ---- "don't touch the head!!"
If we could just get the doctors to do that then the incidence rate would go down dramatically.
If we could just get them to change the position -- so the male doctors won't opt for on all fours - but maybe sidelying would be more palpable for them.
But again - I would be so happy if they just learned NOT TO TOUCH THE HEAD and have the fathers and labor support people in the room police that (doubtful though).

Dont touch the head is good, (be nice if traditional midwives would stop doing that too) Babies deliver themselves -unless you DO have a shoulder dystocia- then IF maternal positional changes dont work (think big babies- sometimes changing mothers positions dont dislodge shoulder- even suPRApublc pressure at pubic bone is nothing without manual rotation) getting past head to shoulders and helping to corkscrew babies out- there comes a point when you need to be abale to consider breaking clavicle or arm (think arms behind back further increasing shoulder diameter)which is a way better option than pulling by the head- still ya gotta get INTO birth canal past head...so you pull head down to get in-
