I have been living in pain for the last 10 weeks continuously. I wake up on a pain scale of 3 or 4 and by the time the day ends I am at a 7, 8, 9, or 10. I have had xrays, ct scan, mri, and mylegram of my cervical region on spine. They have found that I have complete avulsion of nerves at C6-C7 vertabras with a 0.9x1.9x1.9 fluid pocket. I also have a small cervical rib at C7 vertabra. The night before my MRI I woke up in the middle of the night because my son rolled out of his toddler bed. It took ten minutes for me to get nerve feeling back to my hand and for my arm to warm back up so that I could move it. I am a single mom so this makes it even harder to care for my son. The pain clinic thinks I also have Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. Which is the pinching of brachial plexus nerve bundle and main arterial blood supply to the arm between the clavical and cervical rib. I have had trigger point injections and accupunture, which are great with helping with muscle pain but it causes a decrease in my arms function. Now that all the test are back the pain clinic will not do anymore trigger point injections or epidurals to help relieve pain. They have started me on Cymbalta and Neurontin.
I am only 28 years old and I am looking at talking to a specialists to see if there is anything I can do surgically to improve my quality of life. The pain clinic is being supportive and willing to help me anyway with referrals and gathering xrays etc... I am thinking about seeing Dr. Nath but I have also found out that the Mayo Clinic has a Brachial Plexus Clinic with a team of doctors. Any suggestions? I live in the Kansas City area. So neither is real close or real far. I just need to do something.
