carp on the fly ( with one hand & semi automatic fly reel)

I took up fly fishing in 2003. I use semi automatic fly reels as they allow me to fly fish using one hand. I like fishing for carp . They are difficult to catch but I manage.

That's a fine looking fish. I loved fishing when I was little. I remember my sister and I were soooo proud of the bucket od little sunfish that we caught that my grandma lovingly took the time and effort to fillet and bread our catch. (Each fish = about 1/4 of a fishstick, lol)
You should put up a demo-video on how to fish one handed......... :)

Hi Bill,
Where did you get this fly real? Looks like a pretty ingenious design. Is it fully operational single handedly?

Thanks,
Chris

the reel is a semi automatic fly reel. it is ideal for BP patients. it allows you to fly fish with one hand. they are high end reels but the joy of being able to fish by yourself is priceless. the picture shows examples of the reels that are available.

upper left: franco vivarelli, Goldstar $700.00 upper right: ATP 37 Aluminum $700.00
lower left: thinkfish Bold $450.00 lower right: ATP 37 Graphite $170.00

the goldstar can be used in saltwater. all have drags, extractable spools and lots of room for backing.

Wow, fantastic! Thanks Bill! Looks like you're getting some good mileage out of those reals by the fish you catch.

We desperately need to create an 'sports, activities & hobbies' forum, and this is exactly one of the reasons why. I used to do a bit of fly fishing before my injury, and tried a couple times after, but it just wasn't worth the hassle (dealing with trying to real in line that had been let out, etc).

I'd love to see video of this in action someday. Maybe after I get one of these reals, I can make that happen.

Thanks again Bill!

Cheers,
Chris

PS I read in another post that you used to compete with the US Disabled Ski Team. That's awesome. I'm a downhill skier myself and am probably happiest and closest to my "old self" when racing giant slalom style down a mountain. Winter is coming!

Ohh wow...I am so happy to see your post...this was my husbands favorite before his injury....I guess I will invest in a reel for him to enjoy fishing again....it has been over a year and everyday he mentions different ideas he thinks of to make fishing possible. :)
