Injury September 2009: Full root evulsion C5,C6,C7,C8,T1
Operation October 2009: incision on arm from elbow to wrist,a long nerve taken out of arm.
incision around lower neck and up towards the lower part of ear.
Donor Nerve cut into Three smaller pieces.
Three small holes drilled into spine,Nerves re-implanted in hope that they will take to spine and grow
C5,C6,C7 is what has been re-implanted.
Operation in Queens Hospital for Neurology and Neuroscience London England
Performed by Professor Thomas Carlstedh and Dr Choi 6.5 hours operation
Told i can hope for: Arm movement and be able to bend my elbow,as for hand/finger movement not much hope, maybe slight movement.
I cannot remember if i could move my shoulder after crash but now 7 months on i can move it in all directions to about 70%
When my arm is fully extended down by my side i can move it out away from me up to about 10 inches from body.
Elbow flexing whilst arm is down by side full extended is very slight at about 1inch movement,it wants to flex but no power it feels.
When i lay down on my side and pivot my arm on a surface (elbow on surface and fingers pointing directly up and arm slightly falling away from you) i can move the arm (elbow to hand) back and forth about 15 inches in distance left to right fully in control.
Hand/Finger/Wrist Movement: Not a sausage.
Maybe i should upload some short videos of progress.
Pain: 24/7 the usual burning sensation its at about 3-7 up and down. It was a constant 8-9
Medication: Lyrica twice daily with amitriptyline 10mg x 2 at night and Lidocaine patches which i dont use all the time.
Keep the heads up guys!
