Surgery for Amaya

Post by tkirkland »

Hello all, it has been quite some time since I have posted to this board. My husband and I are closer to making a decision regarding what we want to do to help our 9yr old daughter who has a ROBPI. In the past my daughter has seen Dr. Nath, Dr. Kozin and two other local Orthapedics. For sometime we were considering the triangle tilt surgery for my daughter with Dr. Nath but after a normal 3D Catscan of her shoulder have recently decided against it. We saw Dr. Kozin yesterday as a one year follow up and he is still recommending the Trapezius Transfer (which is more in line with what a local doctor wanted for her as well). This will help her with her external rotation and with her ability to lift and carry. My question to you all is has anyone had this done and if so would you mind sharing your experience? I would also appreciate any other insight, advice, comment or anything that you would like to offer us as we are looking to plan her surgery for this summer. Dr. Kozin seems like a wonderful doctor who is highly knowledgeable and respected and everyone at the Shriners Hospital was nothing less then friendly.

Do you know if Dr. Kozin is recommending upper trap transfer (possibly with levator scap), mid or lower trap transfer? I'm assuming since you'll be addressing ER, he is recommending lower trap?

I don't know. He didn't specify and I didn't realize that their were differences. I will need to ask him. I am emailing him with some questions that I didn't ask him when I saw him. It sounds like you are familiar. Have you had it done?
