1st bike race!

Post by cdmurfee »

I decided a while ago that I want to try out for the paralympic cycling team to get more attetion towards BPI, see more of the world, and educate BPI families about the things they should know that my family did nit know while I was growing up. I have my first bike race of the season this Saturday! Wish me luck! This will be the first of many, building up to the Paralympic cycling trials being in mid June. I'll keep you all updated if anyone is interested. Still planning on making a website of my own, just haven't had the time lately. Be well!

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.

My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

Thanks everyone! No video, but my room mate, who is a photographer, offered to take pictures of the start if it's not raining on Saturday.

I also am getting my new pro racing bike today! I've been training on a generic road bike, and have been doing pretty well on it, but I've definitely worn it into the ground. I'm stoked about Saturday!

So last Saturday I decided to pull out of the race at the last minute. It was raining heavily, and the wind was blowing hard. I didn't think it worth damaging my new bike over. However, tomorrow I'm racing in an afternoon criterium series, so that will be my first official of many races this year. I'll keep you posted!
