Does he sleep with that thumb curled under? I am wondering if some kind of soft brace that keeps the thumb from curling under. I know that gentle massage at the base of the thumb and stretching the palm and spreading the fingers helps me when I get those
Good luck. Please let us know what your Dr's suggestions are. It may help others with that problem

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.

My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

I still think a ball or a small "furry friend" that he could hold in his hand "because the "furry friend" is cold and "your hand just fits him to keep him warm" could help... but that's just me, "bossy" UBPN Gramma Carolyn. ;)

1 surgery at age 14 (latissimus dorsi transfer). In 2004, at age 28 I was struck with Transverse Myelitis which paralyzed me from the chest down. I recovered movement to my right leg, but need a KAFO to walk on my left leg. I became an RN in 2008.

The shaking is most likely "clonus" aka myoclonus, comes from having nerve damage.
Not quite the same as a twitch but also from nerve damage and wrong signals being sent.

When Aria's thumb hurts her, we use moist heat, stretching followed by massage, and Motrin.

I'll echo what others have said that knowing the source of the pain (I mean specifically) will help. We've learned that Aria's adductor gets overly tired from being "on" so much, so she seems to feel relief more quickly if I concentrate the massage there first, then work out.

Before she regained wrist extension (and she held her wrist in rigid flexion much of the time), she complained more of pain in her hand than she does now. I started the heat and massage higher up her forearm then, and worked down.

I hope one of the suggestions on this thread offers your little guy some relief. It's horrible when our children hurt!
