Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: Nicholas is 11 years old and his birth was complicated by a severe shoulder dystocia resulting in a severe LOBPI. He has had 5 surgeries to date with very little improvement. His left arm has never fully gained any functional use and has been completely flaccid until his last surgery. It now sits at a more natural position, but he is still unable to use his arm. However, his hand function was never limited until after his most recent surgery and is now completely limited due to an ulnar nerve entrapment. He is getting ready to have his 6th surgery in April to free the ulnar nerve from his last surgery. He is an amazing young man who never gives up on his dreams. He is my HERO!!!

Awareness Idea

Post by nkjacoby »

I have thought about this week all year long. I couldn't get car magnets in time for awareness week, but I want to let everyone know that I am spreading awareness. I am going to write a different message on my van windows everyday of this week in bright window paint. The problem is, I am wanting to include on the mom's ideas b/c I only have one or two. I would love to hear ideas of messages to write on my van windows. Am I allowed to write the website to UBPN? Hope to hear from lots of mom's!!!!

You are allowed to post the website. Have fun with it, I think that is a fantastic Idea...Post that on the awareness board too, maybe others will follow suit.

P.S. I can ship out magnets on Monday, and you should get them in time for awareness week beginning on the 18th and ending 24th.

That is a great idea, and I have plenty of those markers.my suggestion is this.....besides using UBPN, why not use some of the WEBSTIES that others have created......with their permission of course.....like injurednewborn.com, the three monkeys one there are quite a few, so ask permission and get those people looking !!!!! I may actually do the same here !!

I'm sorry to announce that injurednewborn.com had it's domain STOLEN!!! while I was in florida while my mom was ill and then for a while after she passed. I just recently purchased injurednewborn.org but it's not set up at all yet.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Gayle

I just checked Injurednewborn.com and it is no longer Francine's site. It redirects you to many other sites including lawyers. I don't think I would use this one as it's not information that use to be there.

I'm going to post information on my FB status at the beginning of Awareness Week. As an adult with obpi, I discovered that most of my family thought "You had that as a kid and were healed".... duh. So for awareness I'm going to mention obpi at least once a day.

Another idea...you can get printable inkjet window clings to print out at home. I think I may go that route myself. Saw them at Wal-mart, but I'm sure they can also be found at Office Supply stores as well.
