UBPN celebrates Brachial Plexus Injury Awareness during the third week of October the 18th through the 24th. Now is this time to start getting ready for awareness week! It would be great if any support groups would be willing to get together sometime during that week.
The awareness committee will soon be posting a list of things that anyone can do to spread awarenees. In the meantime, feel free to visit the awareness pages of the web site!
For anyone wanting to participate, We will be collecting recipies to create our very first cookbook. Please feel free to send recipies to amy@ubpn.org The deadline for recipe submission will be September 26, 2009 This will make it possible for the cookbooks to be available for purchase during awareness week!
Lets make awarenees week rock this year!!! Start planning now and if you have any fabulous ideas, please post them so others may incorporate them into celebrating awareness week too!

Re: Awareness week is approaching!
I made a PowerPoint for Nursing school a few years back about OBPI. Maybe if people want to see it email me and I can send it to them individually. It's a good thing for Awareness Week if someone wants to use it.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".
