What would the tendon transfers purpose be (like my tendon transfer was to make it possible to open my hand which was in the shape of a fist until after the surgery, then I could partially open and close completelt) I might have another one this summer that would prevent hyper-extension in my knuckles, which would allow me to completely open my hand with out the aide of braces. Let me know and I might be able to look some thing up for you,

This would be something that you should ask your surgeon about. The docs do different procedures for different reasons and you would need to ask about the specifics for your child. All I can tell you is that they've been doing certain tendon transfers and releases for years and years and so they are not a new concept (so it's much less experimental).

The tendon transfer would be to improve her supination and external rotation. The surgeon, Dr. Goitz at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, said that her shoulder capsule is starting to freeze and rotate forward. I hope that answers your questions. I'd appreciate any and all feedback!

I agree that you should ask more specifics from the doctor as each doctor does things different from another. In fact, I would get another opinion before doing such a surgery, to make sure this is the best choice for your daughter. It never hurts. Good luck.

Our daughter just had surgery called the Anterior Capsule Release which helped with external rotation (she was internally rotated) and subluxation. As a result of the surgery, she now can supinate because her shoulder is back in alignment. No muscle transfer was done with this surgery. It was arthroscopic as well. Dr. Kozin at Shriner's in Philadelphia did it. It is truly a wonderful procedure!

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.

My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".
