even tho specialist centers have low fail rates, there is always the chance of miscarriage with amniosentesis and that does need to be considered.
If the pregnancy is wanted no matter what and the information is just that, information to prepare parents, then surely the percentages of success from the non invasive testing would be sufficient for the purposes of the parents?

i just wanted to thank all of you for your comments. It's so nice to have so much input and information before making such important decisions. You've all given me a lot to think about. Thanks again.
We're still researching and thinking about what will be best for us.
We live in Montana in I guess what most would consider a rural area. The city we live in is about 30,000 people. The nearest "big city" (about 100,000 people) is 150 miles away. If I decide to do the testing here I don't have a choice of where to go. There is only 1 OB group in town and the only center that "reads" the results is a town about 90 miles away. That may have a bearing on my decision. Does anyone know how I would go about getting statistics on the center?

Thanks again for your comments.

hi connie -

The center I went with were the ones who actully invented the CVS test - they are also the ones who do surgeries on unborn fetuses - it is a major teaching and research hospital here in philly. The doctor I had - well he does this all day plus the surgeries, so he does this work full time. They actually published their statistics and they gave it to me printed up.
(It's too bad I didn't have them deliver maia - sheesh)

I'd just call down there and start asking a million questions...and see where it leads you.

good luck,
francine
