Birth to three / EI

Post by christy »

Could some of you share what your various Early Intervention program covers? Katie had an IFSP meeting last week and lost all services except for (2) thirty minute sessions with an OT. The Director of the program came (I wonder if this was because they told us no services were available after 3 from the schools and I started searching and the other programs contacted them? OR could it be because the director is a friend of the OB?hmmmmmm)and although katie has "deficiencies" they feel she will compensate and come up with a way to overcome them. We feel like it is her birthdate all over again and someone just did something they shouldn't have. Help

My son was in the EI program and when he turned 3 they turned him down for all services as well. I fought and fought and went back to the school board 3 times before finally I got approval. It was not easy. In the mean time I used my insurance co for P/T and O/T. It kinda worked out well, my son had the mod quad @ 3, which is when his EI program ended and because he just had surgery he NEEDED therapy so my insurance kicked in. Fighting for services through the school district is NOT easy. I truly felt the board had no idea what the injury was about so I sent LOTS of awareness info. My school board had never had a brachial plexus injury before come for services. My reply was, well before you deny the services you need to read and research what it is all about. I also changed physiatrist to one who was a big believer in services and helped me fight for them. Email me if you want more info and good luck. :)

My ECI covers until the age of 3. Afterwards, I guess it is all up to you to find the peole and come up with the money.

We never used ei for Blake, our insurance paid for therapy, we need letters of necessity for them every so often, but we get assistance from DSCC in Illinois, I don't know where you live, but it is division of specialized care for children and BPI is covered. Maybe they have one in your state. They have paid for OT, airfare to TX, as well as our hotel stay and reimbursement for some meals on our trip. I didn't know about them for his first surgery, but they helped us with MQ, and I'm hoping they'll help again for capsulodesis. Good luck, I'm not anticipating the school services when we have to turn to them, I haven't heard real great stories for them in our area, but every place is different. I hoped I helped a little. :)
