I have recieved ssi due to my bpi and it is I who feels better about it today. Really the ss administration will probably deny you the first time but try to persevere, they came through for me in the end. I worked construction, got wrecked and filed, was denied then appealed. get back with your local people and get the appeal process figured out, then put everything relating to your injury and condition together. Doctor reports,medical info,letters on your behalf, internet information,everything you can find that interests you is worth giving to them, write them a good, detailed letter on how your prospects and living situation look to you from right where you are. Give them everything and the benefit of the doubt.

I am obpi and 63... and I had to fight with SS when I could no longer work at 61... they made me prove I was disabled...

My first piece of advice is to get someone to help you write a resume- one that tells how hard you have worked and how long and for whom... include any community service you may have been involved in also.

Now this was the hard part for me... make a list of EVERYTHING you can no longer do... I never relized how many things I had never been able to do until I did this... warning - it can be depressing... but you need to tell them not only what you did but what you can no longer do... also please remember to include the fact that you must protect you unaffected arm because it must serve you for the rest of your life...
I did not know that I should take care of it and mine is worse then my bpi arm/hand....

I had to prove I was disabled they told me I had to be out of work with out pay for 6 months... then I received my disability...

One of the things I learned after this process was finished was that I was dumb!.... I began to cut my work time in half when I started to loose the unaffected arm... by the time I applied for Disability I was working at limited things had cut my pay in to 1/3 of what it was... thus I lowered my entire Social Security payments and disability payments...
Again since I was not the "bread winner" I did not receive any medical benifits...that is ok for me because I am covered by my husbands insurance...

If you are in a union for welders - don't they supply you with legal advice on how to go out on disability? Some of the locals do...

it seems that you both have the same message that the system works! i understand that there are no short cuts on this route but i really feel that the person i was previouse to the accident is disabled. doesn't say there aren't lots i can do, but it is a small fraction of what i could do before so i will tell the truth and go forward from there. it sounds like neither one of you got lawyers involved but i think i will after the first rejection to help me get all the i's doted and t's crossed. it's good to know i am not barking up the wrong tree any way. i should be able to fill up a bushel basket full of info with all that has been collected by those that have been here before.as for legal aid from my union that won't happen as they are in the process of getting people to work not out of it. they would put me it touch with someone if it was work related but this being mc related doesn't meet the criteria.they have helped with phone calls, brothers stop to cut fire wood, offers of financial aid and encoragement always. a great bunch of guys and i miss working with them. i was always the one that said i would never retire as it was who i am/was. hi in regards to you soc sec post yes there is hope my lil friend..haha....i am 20 years old i had a tbpi to my left arm and am currently on several medications. do you take any medicine for anything if so that wil help you when you go and apply. do you have a doctor backing you up? if so you should be able to get it. wjat state are you in by the way? i am in ohio. I applied and then had to appeal it two times overall it took me three years. but they had to give me my back pay as well i went in to court the last time i appealed it with no lawyer. no lawyer would take my case they said i was fighting a no win situation being it was my non dominant arm hahaha lil do they know. i think when you talk to a judge like a normal human being, some will listen and you CAN touch their heart they got feelings to you know>? I asked the judge if he could just imaginge having only one hand and trying to make it in a world where alot of things are required to have two hands to do? just tell them its kinda hard to tie your shoes or put your hair up or eveb fix your self something to eat let alone trying to wash dishes or folding laundry is out of the question LOL but somehow you manage tell them how damn depressing it is. You dont get over it but you get through it right. i hope this may be of some help to you thanks

i would be in the poor house here in wild wonderful west virginia. as for the drs backing me up? well i feel they are as was told that i am certinly one handed for the forseable future. need to get to bed now will get back with you red
