Teen son with brachial plexus injury

Post by Kellymg »

My son is interested in a possible surgery to help correct his injury that occurred at birth. From the day he was born he has been to physical and occupational therapy. At the age of one year he had surgery. They removed scar tissue build up. The surgery did not seem to help. He is now 15 and like most teens is concerned by the way he looks. He has asked if his injury can be corrected by surgery (again). Has anyone had a surgery as a teen or an adult with success. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you.

Best wished to your son! I reccommend a bpi specialist Shriners is free and have some reputable docs but there are many other options too. Check out the doctors resources pages under the resources at the top of the page.

My experiences:
I have had surgery at ages 6, 11, 12, 18, and 20.
The only one that didnt help me was the surgery I had at age 11, I didnt have appropriate therapy after which probably caused it to fail. I didnt lose anything but I didnt get the gains I wanted either.
I am suffering overuse pains in my good arm if I type too much so I am going to send you the link to me personal website where I keep a journal that I update about once a month. It has all the info from my different surgeries on there. my site is www.freewebs.com/bpimn
please feel free to check it out!

Good luck!
