Thought I'd post a question I asked on the general board here as well

I'm interested in finding out as much as I can about the Muscle Transfer surgery that is used to help finger extension. Caleb has good finger flexion, but very little finger extension. The doctor still feels he has a good chance of regaining it on his own, so he's post-poned any surgery of this type until Caleb is 4-5 year old. (He's 2.5) But I'm wanting to begin to research this as much as I can so I can be fully prepared and knowledgeable if the time ever comes that we have to go ahead with this surgery. Have any of you undergone this surgery or had it done for your child? Thanks in advance.

Kari w/ Caleb LOBPI. Just had the Muscle Transfer/Tendon Release done on his shoulder on Monday.

Hi!
I just thought I would post a response to your question.
I have not yet had this surgery, however it is in the works. I am waiting for an appointment with a dr. that has said he will do this surgery on me. I have seen him already about my upper arm, but seeing as nothing can be done for that he wants to see me about my hand.
What he wanted to do before was take the tendons from the back of my fingers and wrap them around to the front of the fingers. This would make it so I could open my hand, which I can't right now.
Hope this made sense. If you have any questions feel free to email me.

Thank you, Erica. Please let me know how it goes. I want to hear all I can about this surgery. I'm still hoping Caleb gets to escape this surgery, but we shall see. You can e-mail me at kari@anderson-clan.org

Thanks.

My daughter was suppose to have this surgrey this past june on here thumb as she has no move at all. When we went for here assessment however, our doctor changed his mind about the surgrey because of the way she carried objects in her hand and did different things. He said that if he was to do the surgrey she would more than likely not be able to do these things anymore as her thumb would be in a different position that wouldn't allow her to get a good grip on objects as she has been. So she isn't going to have anymore surgrey's. She just turn 5 in novemeber.
