Life’s ups and downs.

Post by Rasberry »

It’s funny how things sometimes pan out innit?

I’ve had the strangest couple of months for a long while.

In October I was retired from the Fire Service (I can’t tell you how devastated I was by that) and had no job to go to….I’ve been working back there on a temporary contract, but knew there were no long term options for me.

A job advert came up that I thought “I’ve got absolutely no chance of getting”. It was for the Police as a ‘Crime Analyst’. Guess what I got the job! To top it all I’d not even been shortlisted for it because of a mistake by their personnel dept. I called to find out why I’d not got an interview and they told me about the error. I wouldn’t let it drop and got invited for interview. They said they’d already chosen the people they were going to offer the job to, so I would have to do well. They’ve offered me one of the top jobs!

Because of the job I had to buy a car. I had the money waiting, but couldn’t afford to buy until I had a job sorted. I found a car. An absolute bargain (I think). only 5800 miles on the clock and only ten months old. It was about £2000-£2500 less than any other dealers could manage.

I got the car booked into ‘Brig-Ayd’ (thanks Marc) for next Tuesday. They’re only a few miles from me and incidentally in the same place where I will be working.

Everything seemed to be going well until some stupid pillock drove into the back of my new car last Friday!
Turns out he’s not insured!!

I wonder if something is trying to tell me I shouldn’t be on the road?

Ah well who cares anyway, I’ve got a great new job, a new car, Christmas is just ‘round the corner and I’m damned sure I’m gonna enjoy it!!

I hope you all do too!!

P.S. Happy birthday Jenny…..hope you didn’t get ‘legless’ too.

P.P.S Good Luck Karl with the surgery, hope that goes well too!

Cheers fella, I'm OK really....it's just really annoying when little twats like that(he was well over 6ft) do those stupid things.
Thing is now I'll be working for the 'old bill' I'll be able to trace him....won't I??

We'll see who has the last laff.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

yea steve you could be a handy contact for when we all get nicked for our choice in pain control:) or is the met. leaving that alone now * concentrating on real crime.

bad luck with the car just a quick note there is an organsiation called wheelchair travel in guildford excuse the name but they specialise in converted cars for rental including cars with hand contro;s so if someone else is at fault through an accident you can hire a car from them & your insurance should pay. only prob with needimng a converted car okk whilst its working but if yoy have an accident or it breaks down its a pain in the butt.

take care & \all the best in new job from a fellow raspberyy love hazel

Cheers Guys !

Yeah those 'Norms' (normal peeps) aren't going to know what's hit 'em!
Mickey, don't come to England!! I've given the rozzers your name, they'll be on the look out for ya!
In fact if I give all your names to them will I get £500 for each??

Haze, thanks for that, I didn't know you'd be able to get adapted hire cars.

Seriously tho' peeps, I sincerely hope your Christmas/Holiday is as great as mine's gonna be!!

My little fella's all over the place now he can walk, and he's not far off talking too. It really is the most fantastic pressie I could ever have, just seeing him have fun.

He grabbed my duff hand the other day and put a toy in it. I couldn't hold on to it and it fell, so he just picked it up and placed it back.......first time he's done that, it was a bit of a choker, but I guess I'll get used to it.

Anyway, stay cool (not Jenny in sunny NZ(jealous not!)) all o' ya, an have a good 'un.
