ulnar nerve to bicep

Post by highlander_1406 »

hi i am just back from stanmore hospital in london and this was my second operation for my bpi injury and i got 2cm of the ulnar nerve grafted to my bicep but i was told they took the ulnar nerve from my forearm when i just got out of theature and then when i left i got told they never took it from my forearm the just went in my bicep can anyone help i am just courious about what that actually did. I was told that proffesor Rolf Birch found a good nerve to attatch the graft to and was very happy with what he had done which i think is a god thing.

Hi Kevin

I'm so pleased that everything went as well as hoped. You were in and out of the hospital real quick which is a good sign!

It's hard to know exactly what Proff Birch did in anyones case specifically; it could have been one of several methods the surgeons use when they re-innervate any muscle, particularly the biceps. There are several websites on the internet that might give you a vague idea of what he did, but as each individual injury is so different from the next persons, it would be difficult to pinpoint exactly what he did this time.

When you go back in a few weeks to have the splint removed, take a list of questions with you and I am sure he will answer them all, then you will have a much clearer idea of how much regain of function you and he will expect.

It is all sounding great...! keep us up to date with your progress!!

Bye for now

hey kevin
all i know is that dr belzberg, my bpi specialist, told me that there were lots of nerves that he could use for harvesting for grafts. they got the one out of my right leg from above the knee to the ankle and one from the inside of the right arm from the armpit to the 2" above the elbow. did you end up with a new scar there or is that where they installed the new section of wiring harness?
