Hi, my husband had a climbing accident 11/2/99 resulting in a bpi. Things look very bleak in the beginning. Now, at nearly 3 years since the event I look back and wonder how we coped. I can remember him sitting on our bed rocking back and forth in agony and I couldnt do a thing to help. But you just have to keep going. Life goes on as they say. There is no miracle cure, mores the pity. My husband takes Gabapentin and Diclofenac during the day and Amitriptyline at night. I think this combination has halved the pain. Any time he has tried to reduce the dose of Gabapentin, for instance, the pain has increased dramatically. My husband has finally returned to work and life, I think, has returned to some kind of normal. Keep your chin up and battle on, things do get easier. If you want to ask anything please leave a message.

It is not easy to get out of bed and do something. Yet in bed......what is he accomplishing? NOTHING!! My son has a BPI to his right side. Due to a car accident in June of 2000. Honestly I recall those days not too long ago with the pain in his face. I swore there had to be help somewhere. Then I found this web site. My son is 16 and has come a LONG way in a short time. He had a nerve transplant from his calf to his BPI and THIS SURGERY RELIEVED HIM FROM PAIN. Of course every case is different, but to us TCH in Huston are miracle workers. It was well worth the money and time and trip. My son's pain level is minimal now. Usually only during therapy does he feel some discomfort. NOTHING like it was right after the accident. Continue here at the UBPN site for words of wisdom. Just when you think you cant deal with your dad any more......someone here says just the RIGHT thing. They are very supportive. Welcome aboard and Best Wishes to you and your father.

Simone how is your father copeing with his pain now? i had a bad day yesterday (sat) but it eased off today. you will have to try & get yuor father to try & go about as normal as he can. (no matter how hard it is)because when you,re doing other things it does take your mind off the pain. I go & see a cycologist now and then, that helps me aswell try & get him to listen to some soft music & close his eyes & think about anything else but the pain. You have got to try & make him keep active, exercise helps me with my pain. Try & get him to still do his favourite hobbys, you can,t let the pain beat him. well goodluck &let everybody know how he is coming along. BIGSEL
