Re: Fellow TBPI friends-shoulder fusion question
I'm new to this site with a 22 yr. old TBPI.
I had a fusion 13 yrs. ago. Mainly because I had a fall on the arm broke it and snapped off one of the 4 tendons that hold the arm on. I was seriously sublexed and hanging. Fears of the arm falling off were huge.
I had the fusion getting a womderful specialist Dr. Robyn Richards now at SunnyBrook Science Centre Toronto, perform the 5 hour operation. He gave me 30 degree range of motion. But what a huge operation. Very touch recovery, very painful. Today in April 2009. I have so many muscles that have returned. I am suffering limitations because of the fusion. The Dr.'s are working on a special spring hinge device to replace the 13 year old model to give me 50-60% range of motion.
For me it was more of a medical need, rather than personal...but now there is no going back. The truth is, you never know nor do the Doctors what is coming back for function.
