Aarons latest surgery
Well it has been 15 months and he is doing ok. There are days when i swear i could feel his humeral head a little by his scapula and i shouldn't be able to. He is still wearing his night time splint every night. I don't know when we will be able to stop, Dr Nath really didn't say. He does so well other than that. He could be sitting watching TV and he will stretch himself overhead and out to the side. Hes still working on getting his hand behind his back and to touch his bellybutton. did your son have triangle tilt? My son had it in November. We saw Dr Nath yesterday in Chicago and he said that he doesn't need to go back into the SARO brace at night. He has been out of it since his 6weeks post op was over, he had to achieve 120 degrees of overhead movement before he could go back in...we were totally surprised to hear that he doesn't need it now.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: My son, Tyler (15) has ROBPI. The nerves were stretched that affected C5,C6,& C7. He has full use of all fingers, but limited ROM. In 2009, he underwent Triangle Tilt surgery and repair for shoulder dislocation.

Paula....has your son been in his brace for the past 15 months? When did he have his surgery? There was a little boy named Aaron at the hospital when my son, Tyler had his surgery this past January.
Ironmansmom....was your son able to get to 120 degrees overhead? Tyler is about 10 weeks post op and hasn't been able to raise his arm to that level yet, although he has some other range of motions that he didn't have before? I'm curious how Dr. Nath decides if they need to go back into the splint at nighttime?

My son can get to 120 degrees, it is becoming more consistent. After Dr Nath saw his 3 month post op video, he said to keep the splint off for 6 more weeks. We saw him yesterday in Chicago and he had him do all of the movements (hand to mouth, arms up in air, supination, arms out to side, hand on hip) He can't do hand on hip, but Dr Nath expected that(you have to internally rotate to do that) He then said that he doesn't need to go back in splint at bedtime and we need to send pictures of the movements every 2-3 months and he will evaluate them. He said that he looked very good.
I hope your son gets great results, he will get there!! It didn't happen fast, but it did happen. My son is now 18 weeks post-op.

Yess he did have the triangle tilt. He was severly internally rotated and he was not able to suppinate past neutral and now he has suppination. He is no longer subluxed (knock on wood) and yes he has been wearing his night time splint for over a year. It does not bother him but there are nights when he asks for "a break" i'd say every month or so this happens and we do give him a break.
